A bit bruised

So here’s the sitch.   Did I mention I have a triathlon in under 30 days.  Problem?  Yes.  It gets worse.  I got in an accident yesterday while riding my bike, which I was in denial about until I went to work today…and wound up in the ER half way through my shift.  I feel like I got hit by a bus.  I am so so sore.  It’s unbelievable.  I have less than 50% range of motion in my neck and my tailbone is badly bruised.  I basically feel stiff all over.  Anyway.  I don’t… Read more >

The tally

Elise 1.  Night shift 1. Monday’s night shift was fine.  But last night’s had a few hiccups.  It started off well enough (same patients, same routine) but after my lunch sleeping break at 3 am, I got busy.  Downside: One of my patients decided to stop breathing (which is never good). Upside: The hours between 3 and 6 am FLEW by.   Leading up to work I had a nice day.  After biking back from work, I showered and crawled into bed, where I promptly dozed off for a solid four hours. When I woke… Read more >

It would be nice, if you made me rice.

The above line is from a poem written by my adorable husband.  I may have to show it to you later.  :)  Since I am on night shift this week, I slept in ‘til noon, enjoyed a late breakfaat, and watched tv until 5:00 rolled around. Part one of my breakfast brunch was a nectarine.  It was another watery not-so-sweet piece of fruit.  Dude.  I am so bummed about these lame nectarines.  From now on I’m buying stone fruit at the farmer’s market ONLY. The second part of meal number one was coconut oats topped… Read more >

Marvelous Monday

Meals and musings from a marvelous Monday… All together now: chia pudding/overnight oats, big salad with leftover quinoa, apple, apricot, WF ciabatta roll, Sabra hummus. I found these at Whole Foods and thought they’d be perfect for lunches.  I usually bring a pita, tortilla, or a slice of sprouted bread to dip in hummus, but Ciabatta rolls sounded like the perfect change up.  I had one for my first breakfast (pre-work eaten in my car) with almond butter. Second breakfast (eaten after grand rounds in the break room) was the last of the leftover chia… Read more >

Kale vs. scale

My meals are breaking my back!  Fortunately, I have learned proper posture (even if I had to learn the hard way).  In all honesty though, nursing hasn’t re-aggravated my back pain in quite some time because I’ve been SO cautious in practicing good body mechanics. I’m happy to report that lugging all this loot on my back while biking to work didn’t hurt either.  But it really is heavy.  By the time I squeeze the zipper over my food, scrubs, klean kanteen, and coffee mug, my backpack is easily tipping the scales into the double… Read more >
