TGI…

I worked on Saturday, so my Friday wasn’t really a TGIF kind of day.

To summarize the AM: cereal, bike ride, window shopping.

IMG_1259

I had two Turlock multi-grain pitas with hummus for lunch and a veggie burger a la mode.

IMG_1258

Hummus gone.  🙁

IMG_1287

In terms of fizz KeVita < Synergy, in terms of calories it’s the reverse.  Flavor-wise I go back and forth.  Depends on what I’m in the mood for.

IMG_1286

Truthfully, all I wanted for dinner was quinoa drenched in Bragg’s liquid aminos, but I decided to up the nutritional profile of my meal by adding seitan and carrots

IMG_1284

It’s my go-to lazy girl (read: easy vegan) meal.  Whole grain?  Check.  Protein?  Check, check.  Veggies?  Check.  Complete meal!  🙂

After dinner I ran to the drug store for an emergency item.  I needed nail polish remover…but wound up in the nail polish aisle…and tested out a few colors.

IMG_1308

I was so busy sampling different colors of polish, I came home without the actual item I set out to buy.  Doh!  I get so distracted.  So then I had to go to work the next day with my hand looking like this!!  Lemme tell you, multi-colored nails don’t exactly scream I’m a professional.  My patients definitely seemed concerned (as they should have been) and I got plenty of questions from fellow co-workers too.

IMG_1269

I went to bed on a belly full of cookies.  These desserts need to disappear.  I’m starting to get annoyed by how they are always on my mind.

I spent Saturday at the hospital, so I tried to get to bed early on Friday night.  Thanks to the [possible] domestic abuse situation next door, I was up all.  night.  long.  I was thisclose to calling the police because they were screaaaaming at each other (amusing and ridiculous things if you ask me).

Kyle shut our windows at 2 am, so I kinda dozed off again, but it wasn’t a great snooze.  Oddly enough, I was really perky when my alarm went off at 4:30 am.  I had a fabulous workout a la Jillian.

IMG_1310

After showering, I poured old tea (left in the French Press overnight) on ice, added a ton of almond milk and slurped it down.

IMG_1314

I snacked on a sample of Caramel Crunchfuls on the way to work.  I got this packet a long time ago and just found it buried in the pantry last week.

IMG_1318

These are the epitome of health food.  While the nutritional profile is excellent, the flavor was mediocre at best.  They had a distinct pea aftertaste.  However, I applaud how the company uses locally-grown, sustainably farmed, non-GMO ingredients.  Their products are free of allergens, artificial colors and flavors too.  These crunchfuls just didn’t do it for me though.

Luckily I had my second breakfast at work.

IMG_1312

Quinoa and plum pudding!

IMG_1306

With the quinoa left over from my dinner, I added cinnamon, plums, chia seeds, and almond milk

IMG_1302

Have you ever seen such a small plum pit as this one?

IMG_1293

Almond milk cuts through the tart plum flavor beautifully, thus making a creamy rich and sweet breakfast.  The quinoa added protein to hold me over through the morning and the chia seeds made it thick like pudding while adding healthy fats.

IMG_1297

The layers look fun from the side, but I ruined them shortly thereafter by stirring it all up to gel overnight.

IMG_1301

And the next morning it looked like this.

IMG_1313

The rest of my work eats are self explanatory.

IMG_1241

Well, maybe not.  I made a veggie strata that I haven’t blogged about yet.

IMG_1236

It has leftover zucchini, squash, kale, and bell peppers, plus Silver Hills bread and tofu.  I will eventually post a recipe.  Maybe.

Two very awesome things happened on my lunch break…

(1) Kyle was getting his hair cut nearby so he met up with me for a bit.

(2) I went to TJ’s and hit the jackpot.

IMG_1322

Praise!

When I got home from work, my amazing husband had already ordered and picked up take-out from Sushi King

IMG_1320

Seaweed salad.

IMG_1321

Rolls.

More cookies for dessert.

What’s the most outrageous thing you’ve ever worn to work?  Hair-dos, nail polish, clothes and make-up all count.  My multi-color nails were pretty effing ridiculous.

Have you ever called the cops on your neighbors for noise?  Ever heard the people next door fighting?  Or doing other things?  When Kyle lived in San Francisco, he heard fighting in the apartment below him all the time and finally called the cops once.  I don’t think anything happened though.  Even though our current neighbors don’t share a wall with us or anything, we both leave our windows open, so we can hear them when they are loud.  And they can be LOUD…both in anger and in passion (if you know what I mean).

Seriously craving sushi right now. Those plums look so delicious – they’re always hit or miss at my grocery store!

  2. Kacy

My neighbors at my last apartment were horrible. They fought all the time and it scared the crap out of me. They sounded so violent though, that I was afraid to call the police for fear they’d retaliate. Also, my upstairs neighbor at the same apartment was not a fighter, but a lover. A loud one. Often.
Luckily ever since I’ve moved to Virginia this problem is non-existent.
Gah that quinoa pudding looks awesome!

“These are the epitome of health food. While the nutritional profile is excellent, the flavor was mediocre at best. They had a distinct pea aftertast”—haha! that is what i was thinking before i even read it…but can you taste the pea? yep, sounds like it.

love your nails. you and skylar could go nail polish shopping together. She loves to sample diff colors on diff fingers 🙂

  4. Elise (Post author)

  5. Sophie @ LoveLiveAndLearn

also, um the air is crisp and fresh me thinks its fooootball seaaaaaaaas

  7. BroccoliHut

I’m totally with you on the fizz factor comparison of KeVita and Synergy. I love me some fizz, so I prefer Synergy all the way!

  8. Abby @ Abz 'n' Oats

The plum quinoa pudding looks fantastic! 🙂 My current neighbors are very quiet which is nice. I haven’t ever called the cops on previous neighbors but I have gone and said something to them myself. Love being known as the grouchy biatch in the complex. lol.

The quinoa plum pudding looks amazing! When my boyfriend and I lived in our old apartment we lived in the 2nd level apt. The neighbors above us were heavy walkers so it sounded like they were stomping around their apartment. They were not only loud walkers, but loud during passion. The neighbors below us played video games very loudly. Ugh, some nights I wanted to scream since it was so loud in our apt. Tomorrow I am wearing a bedazzled scrub top to work. My hospital is shooting a pink glove video, to debut in october, so my department’s filming is tomorrow. Our aide bedazzled our scrub tops today, so we will be extremely sparkly tomorrow 🙂

  10. Christine (The Raw Project)

Love the nail polish test, how fun! Sorry about your neighbor situation, not fun! 🙁

  11. Katie

My nieces like to paint my nails like that. Just add some sparkles on top of it all and you are living a seven year old’s dream.

Also, when I have some ridiculously good dessert in the house, I really can’t stop thinking about it until it’s gone. Which is why I sometimes bake a batch of cookies and then eat them all in 2 days.

  12. blossjoss

Can I raid your cupboards? Lunch box? Plate? I wish our house currently had cookies to make disappear.

  13. Sherry

Do you watch Dexter? The first thing I thought of when I saw your nails was that you look like one of the Ice Truck Killer’s victims.

  14. ashley @ cooking for john

girl, i totally hear you with desserts always being on your mind! i love to bake, but hardly do because i will eat an entire batch of cookies in 2 days, max. even something seemingly innocent, like banana bread, isn’t safe. but now i really want banana bread. 🙂

  15. Emily

Woo! Sounds like great neighbors lol.

I used to work with boys with Down syndrome, and I had my fair share of costumes that the boys dressed me up in. And then we would walk to the park, and I would be dressed in a mix of cowboy/batman. No shame.

  16. Alissa @ Not Just Apples

The seaweed salad looks really very yummy!

  17. Yin

I had to laugh at the nail polish and being at work, heh!

all you need is a weekend with nothing to do and you suddenly find youre on your 4th batch…then you have to try and make em last!

  22. Elise (Post author)

yes! haha. thats EXACTLY what kyle said they reminded him of too!!!

  23. Elise (Post author)

seriously. kyles hardly been any help lately either since he is on some sort of health kick…i knew giving him the jillian podcasts would backfire on me!!

  24. Elise (Post author)

that is SO FRIGGIN awesome!!! i cant believe its almost breast cancer month again. time flies.

ps our neighbs above us have a 4 yr old and i swear she is training for the baby olympics. she does marathons across the living room constantly. so annoying!!

  25. Elise (Post author)

haha. i know. i figured yelling out the window was a better approach so they dont see me on the street and attack!

  26. Elise (Post author)

    hollerrrrr

  27. Elise (Post author)

    thats my kind of girl!

  28. Yolie @ Practising Wellness

Aah, Kyle’s a star. Sushi = the bomb. 🙂 I love meeting the Kiwi for lunch, it’s such an awesome way to break up a work day, and have some down time 🙂 Also he brings roasted vegetable and hummus sandwiches, which is another reason it’s so good, lol! 😛 Your nails were hilarious…like the rainbow! I haven’t really worn anything crazy to work, but once when I was working on reception I spent the whole day using a novelty biro that was about 3 inches wide and 12 inches high…that was funny! 😀 xyx

I just had to call the police on our neighbors across the street last night! The hubby and I were watching Dexter, just minding our own business when all of a sudden we could hear (through closed windows/doors) crazy shouting. Out of curiousity, as it was after 10 p.m., I cracked the door to hear whether the shouting was angry or fun, and ended up hearing some punches landed. I immediately called the police to report it.

This is the SECOND time in a month that I have called the police because of neighbors fighting in the street on our block. I don’t get it! We live in a nice, family-friendly neighborhood, but this summer has just been weird. I hate calling because I feel like a snoop, but I don’t want crazy violent outbursts in my neighborhood especially if we decide to start a family there.

  30. Kinley @ Better Off Barefoot

The most ridiculous thing I ever wore to work was flip-flops… maybe not strange for some places but I work at a very serious lawfirm! I went home to let the dog out and for some reason never remembered to put my grown up shoes back on… oops!

And my neighbors scream at each other ALL the time… but luckily he’s not a live in boyfriend yet so he goes home after a short bit of screaming at his girlfriend!! (and to add to the visual, they are in their 60’s!)

  31. Elise (Post author)

    whats a biro?

  32. Elise (Post author)

how funny (slash creepy) that you were watching dexter when it happened!

  33. Elise (Post author)

i *almost* went to work in my slippers the other morning. i realized i was wearing them when i was going down the stairs and they were flip flopping. that would have been SO embarrassing!

ps elderly couple yelling match? wow.

  34. Yolie @ Practising Wellness

maybe it’s an english term? it’s a pen 🙂 xyx
