Too busy to break the fast

As promised, I had a chocolate-y delicious Amazing Green concoction for dessert Wednesday night.

Notice the blender top?  Yes, I went for a more ambitious drink, and blended in ice and half a frozen banana to achieve the perfect chocolate banana dessert.

And I thought my high school weekend job would never come in handy!  Look at me now Jamba!

Anyways, as always, I packed my lunch for work, which included the same cast of characters…

IMG_3358 IMG_3359

Dried apples, dried mango, english muffin with it’s other half (hummus), choc/chip/peanut odwalla bar (see nutritionals above), apple, salad

I wouldn’t even know where to BEGIN with the hideousness that was Thursdays shift.  It would both shock and appall you all to no end, so I will keep these patients’ stories private both for your sake and theirs.  To give you a little hint as to how rough the day was though, let’s just say, I didn’t have to time to touch my coffee (that I bought at 6 am) until 12:30, and I couldn’t step away for my “lunch” break until 4 pm.  Finally, a few packed red blood cell transfusions, and an enema later, I stepped off the unit shaking with hunger.  Adrenaline only carries you so far, ya know?

I made my way to the bucks for hits 2 and 3, which barely made a dent in my energy level, but were good nonetheless.  Apparently grande iced drinks are cheaper ($2) after 2 pm if you are a starbucks glutton.  As if I needed an excuse…

In addition to the lunch I brought, I downed an “Aloha Mix” nut/dried fruit assortment, leaving behind the walnuts (ick).

I think my ravaging appetite was a prime demonstration of why deprivation diets don’t work.  Once you finally crack (or in my case, get your lunch break) you are so hungry, you eat everything in sight!

My locker’s dark chocolate stash also took a bit of a beating (although I only ate about 1/3 of the bar).  Call me a freak, but I still don’t like dark chocolate nearly as much as carob.  It’s just too bitter!

By the time I dragged my feet through the door, I was just too tired and lazy to put together much of a meal.

When creativity is lacking, veggie burgers are the answer.  Fortunately, these Gardenburgers were on sale last week and I was excited to try them.

IMG_3361 IMG_3363

I nuked 2 patties in the micro and then chopped them into the pathetic salad you see above.  I was so confused by this product I actually had to double check that I hadn’t mistakenly bought real beef hamburgers (which I didn’t).  They tasted different than any veggie burgers I’ve had before, most likely because they aren’t loaded with veggies, and instead are trying to replicate the taste of beef.  It was weird.  Not bad.  Just different.  I think I like the soy-free (veggie filled) ones instead though.

Almost immediately after finishing the salad, I was ready for dessert.  And I knew I wanted something with peanut butter

Medjools AND toast.  HIT.THE.SPOT.  Once I was finished that plate, I had 10 more medjools and plopped in front of the tv with the jar of PB and a knife…next thing you know, jar is empty, and I’m full.  Moderation is for the mature chumps.

Whoa glad you made it through such a long and exhausting day…I hate the “shaky hunger” feeling, it’s definitely unbearable!

At least your day ended on an AMAZING note, meaning lots of PB…always makes me happier 😉

  2. Whit

That jar of PB sounds like me. I scraped some DCD clean in about a week and a half.

  3. blueeyedheart

Sorry you had such a stressful day!! Hopefully today goes better for you… but the good thing about appalling days is that whatever comes afterwards looks so rosy in comparison! 😉

I’m not so big on veggie burgers that taste too much like “real” burgers either. Isn’t the point of VEGGIE burgers to taste like veggies more than burgers? Oh well. Trial and error.

Shitty day= great excuse for all things smothered in PB and hummus (although maybe not together).

If you have to include the word “enema” in your post, you deserve it.

  5. ksgoodeats

I will be passing on those Gardenburgers – K doesn’t do fake beef.

You are the finisher (you know like The Closer on TV [TNT I believe]) when it comes to jars/containers. I genuinely admire that!! Hope work isn’t TOO crazy dazy today/next time!

Yikes, that shift sounds rough! I don’t know if I would lose my appetite completely or be ready to chew my arm off after that…hehe, likely chew my arm off 😛

The original Gardenburgers are really good- no fake meat but I think maybe cheese?

Hope you have a good weekend!

    of peanut butterrrrrrrr and a
    knife never ends well. never.

or did i mean to say always..?

  8. Courtney

Not peanut butter, but I do the *same* exact thing with the medjools…I have a huge pile of them and then, suddenly…they are gone! Ahhh! WHY are they so good and addictive?! They are seriously dangerous…

Sorry you had such a rough day! Peanut butter and dates make everything better. I need to try my Amazing Grass with a banana and blender now. Looks good!

  10. Maggie

Yeah, shaky hunger sucks! Thanks for your comment the other day. Your blog and the way you eat are really inspiring to me… so keep it up 🙂 Yay for PB, even in overdose.

  11. julie

Yeaaaah for PB extravaganza! You sounded like you needed a good jar after that crazed day. Haha you should open up shop, quit nursing and start your own Jamba juice. do it. Only if you hire me as your head barista.

Those veggie burgers DO look very unveggie like. interesting..

  12. MarathonVal

Haha I love seeing that I’m not the only one with an enomrous appetitite – I, too, could easily chow down on a huge bag of dates or a jar of PB in one sitting – or both! 😉

  13. emily

I’ve never tried those veggie burgers, but I agree that the soy free ones are superior!

I have got to try AG! That smoothie looks great!

  14. Graze With Me

A jar of nut butter, dates and a couch. Are we related???

Love the eats, love the stories and I have to say you’ve reawakened my love for hummus. Definitely my fab condiment!

  15. Lara (Thinspired)

I have yet to try a date/nut butter combination, but every time I read your blog I say that I will! We’re going to Costco today so I will buy some dates and try it in your honor!
I’m not really in love with the Gardenburgers I have tried so far, either. Amy’s are the BOMB!

  16. homegirlcaneat

I don’t know how you do those long ass shifts without eating for those periods of time. Then again, it I was giving enemas, I would prob forget all about food for awhile.

When my blood sugar is low, I become such a BEEZY! I need food in my bellay!

  17. elise

I’ll have to try those. Amy’s is golden in my book!

  18. elise

Amazing Grass is addicting…but what’s the downside of being hooked on organic greens?

  19. elise

    I agree 🙂

  20. elise
