To Your Health!

I wish someone could have heard the conversation Kyle and I had on the way home from this dinner.  “What does A Votre Sante mean anyway?” “I think it’s another Saint.” “No, that’s not right.” “Maybe twenty something?” “Maybe something sane?” “No.” “Hmmm…” “Is it French?” “Latin?” “No idea.” “Well, I give up.” “We’ll look it up when we get home.” “Okay.” No seriously.  We are really dumb when it comes to languages outside of English and Spanish (I can see Kyle rolling his eyes right now saying “speak for yourself”).  Truthfully, all I can… Read more >

Ruby Hill winery wedding

This recap is mostly for Laura, since she is [back] in South America, and was therefore unable to join us in celebrating.    The new Mr. and Mrs.! Not that there’s much to report from the morning leading up to the wedding…but I do feel like I should back up a bit.  For Laura’s sake.  The hippie household was in a scramble situation leading up to the main event. Marie went out Saturday night and was in too hung over of a state to get to my parents house until just before we left. My… Read more >

Super simple granola

Yesterday I promised you quite a few posts… This one probably whet your appetite the most.  And rightfully so. I’ve already perfected quinoa granola before, so how does this one differ?  Well, it’s lighter for one.  The ingredients list is shorter, too. Granola is awesome.  You just raid your pantry, throw everything in a bowl, and the rest sorts itself out in the oven.  Or you could follow this recipe… Sweet almond and quinoa granola Ingredients: 2 cup whole rolled oats 1 cup quinoa (uncooked) 1 cup almonds, slivered 1/2 cup dried cranberries 1/2 cup… Read more >

It’s true what they say

“Home is where the heart is” Yup.  It’s true.  Lucky for me, I consider both the Bay Area AND Santa Monica “home.”  So even though it was a total joy to spend the weekend with my parents and sister, I’m glad to be back with Kyle.  Win win.  Eventually I will recap the wedding in more detail (so fun!), but for now, I’m trying to get organized for work tomorrow (reality check…wah wah). I had leftovers from Patxi’s for Saturday brunch.  I had baby carrots a la mode because I enjoy fiber.   Even day… Read more >

Al Natural in Madrid

Best twist of fate ever! After quite a day’s journey from Cordoba, the first restaurant we tried for dinner was closed.  No idea why, but fortunately we had a backup option ready just in case.  I knew it was veg-friendly, but I didn’t know it was entirely vegan.  Wee!!!    If you are in Madrid and looking for a delicious vegetarian or vegan meal, you absolutely must go to Al Natural Vegetariano.  For the record, they do have ovo-lacto options too, as well as free-range chicken and fish dishes.  We were semi-early (for Spain’s dining… Read more >
