Oot and aboot

No need to send out the search dogs, I’m alive and well.  In the last few days I’ve been hanging out with with my sis and working.  I worked the past two days, and Laura left to return to CA today (tear).  In the interest of just getting up to date, I’ll limit Tues through Thurs to the very upmost blog-worthy parts.  Not that everything I write isn’t thrilling… Me + Laura + WF lunch + central park = happy day The sun was BLAZING, so the photos were all soopah bright.  In case your… Read more >

1 shift, 2 shift, 3 shift, floor!

I’m exhausted with a capital “E” after the last 3 days of work I’ve had.  I shouldn’t complain since I had 4 days off in a row while my sister was visiting, but man was it difficult to go back to such a chaotic scene.  Tuesday’s shift whizzed by so fast I was playing catch up for 12 hours straight (the unit was good busy, not shoot-myself-in-the-head busy), on Wednesday I cried (more on THAT later…), and Thursday I was called to the ICU to cover a patient who had taken a turn for the… Read more >

Not my finest hour

I woke up at 6:50 am today.  FYI, my shift starts 7.  Uh.  Oops?  After having a mini-stroke, I got my butt in gear and hauled ass to work.  If there’s ONE THING you should know about me, it is this: I HATE CHAOS.  Odd, given my job right?  To be honest, I feel like it is actually this quality of my personality that’s one of the reasons I thrive in the ICU.  I think the constant drive to create order and stability works to my advantage in such an intense setting.  And yet, in… Read more >

Short and sweet

In the interest of…well…interest, this post is going to be super short.  Nothing remotely exciting happened today. 5 AM – I woke up to the annoying buzz, buzz, buzzzzzz of my alarm 7AM to 7 PM – Workface Please direct all questions about my lunch to your mom the comments section.  I doubt you’ll have any, it’s not like this was anything new… Oh wait, there was this: How’d that fatty sneak it’s way into my chickpeas????  The main thrill of the day was the medical staff appreciation mini-shindig thingy that the hospital hosted at… Read more >

All I want is peace(food)

I worked both days this weekend.  So on Saturday, while everyone else was frolicking in the sun, I was dealing with my patient who decided she was through with the hospital, and removed her own chest tube.  Don’t worry, she’s fine (physically at least…psych-wise I’m still on the fence). Anyways.  Yummy pre-packed food includes: raisin/almond/cashew/carob chip mix, dried mango/papaya, Tribe hummus mini-tub, apple, raw salad, and some bars. Odwalla Superfood (I heart every green millimeter of this flavor) and a Cashew Cookie Larabar (also a favorite). The rest of the day flew by uneventfully (just… Read more >
