Days that start with the letter “s”

Saturday was a work day.  F to the U.N.  Packed nom-noms are some of the usual suspects, as well as some new members.  Carrots, salad, apples, bars, and a baggie of goodies.  Tummy-wise, I felt a little bit better, but certainly not great.  In the non-transparent bag: almonds, carob chips, raisins, pistachios, cashews, and pretzels. This Belle Bananas Foster flavored 18 Rabbits bar was another winner.  I’m not usually a banana nut fan, but this may be the bar that changes that.  It’s oaty, with good breakability, perfect level of sweetness, and reminds me of… Read more >

Pearly whites & snowy nights

After my sophisticated breakfast of an apple and frothy cup of coffee, I headed to the dentist’s office for a routine cleaning.  Since I was in midtown, I met up with Kyle after my appointment to show off my sparkling new pearly whites.  I owe my cavity free chompers to these babies.  Kyle and I went for a little stroll before he returned to work. Entering through Artisan’s Gate (Central Park South and 7th Ave)… A crossroads in The Park (if there’s ever a park to be capitalized and deemed “THE” park, it should be… Read more >

Shiitake, cannellini & kale soup

I didn’t intend for this to be a stew, but the extra juice was too good to waste. This dish was born from my desire to try new things…and a while back I mentioned that I wanted to experiment with new types of ‘shrooms (in a legal way)…so I bought some Shiitake mushrooms from Whole Foods and started brainstorming what to do with them.   It took me a while to decide how to incorporate them into a recipe, but then a light bulb went off (does anyone else experience cooking related “AHA moments” while… Read more >

Food prep (aka AAAA part 3)

Work dayyyy… Big salad, small salad, Iced Oatmeal Raisin Luna bar, Honey Graham Z bar, Tazo chai tea, and 2 apples (gala and pinata) So yeah.  Moving on to the last of the AAAA (refer back to part 1 & part 2 if you missed it)… 3.  The last issue I want to tackle relates to my days off.  I cut myself MAJOR slack on work days (probably more than I should).  But let’s face it, completing a 12 hour shift shouldn’t equate to a get-out-of-jail-free card.  It’s not brain surgery (it’s heart surgery –… Read more >

IF…

If you follow my tweets you probably saw that I decided to do a little overtime the other day… If you know my normal work hours (7 am – 7 pm) you may be wondering if I am an overachiever crazy… (Yes, is the short answer)  But because two night nurses called in sick, there were minimal options, and ultimately I decided to stay at the hospital until midnight (when a replacement could arrive).  Class, pull out your calculators.  If you don’t have a calculator I’ll help you out, that makes 17 hours of fun… Read more >
