Hummus and taxes

I’m pretty sure my version of the phrase is just as true (and not nearly as morbid).  I mean really, is there anything more certain in life than the fact that I’ll consume pounds and pounds of hummus?  No.  The burden of taxes, on the other hand, is a far less joyous inevitability. Kyle and I have nearly finished ours, though, so at least that will be one big check off the to-do list.  I have to say, moving to a different state and starting new jobs certainly made things more difficult this year.  Good… Read more >

A weekend of PACKing it in

I just found out it’s a holiday weekend.  Who knew?  Hospitals obviously don’t shut down and so I work Monday, but I still made the most of this weekend. The PACKERS win was clearly a highlight. Who would have known a kid from Chico would be the next big thing?!?  Love it. Congrats Aaron.  🙂 We also celebrated a friend’s birthday with a night on the town. Dinner was at the ridiculously expen$ive Boa Steakhouse.  Seriously.  So.  Expensive.  I was nervous about the vegan options on the menu after calling beforehand and discovering it was… Read more >

This is my balance

A few days ago Kailey posted about her idea of balance and then she encouraged others to share their own version. To me, balance is not getting stressed out about making things even and constant.  It’s just not realistic pour moi.  Because I work such long hours, but then have full days off in between, I know that each day will be new and different than the last. I work weekends, night shifts, day shifts, holidays, whatever.  And I’m never sure of how my day will go either.  Will my patient load be easy and… Read more >

Merry Millennium

Happy holidays everyone! It’s Christmas up in here 🙂 I’m working on the 25th, so Santa was nice and obliging and came early this year (this post is from the 21st). To celebrate as a family, we all went to dinner in the city. In spite of the gross weather, we headed into San Francisco early to browse the Ferry Building, check out the tree (in Union Square) and grab some drinks at the famous Harry Denton’s Starlight Room.  Views of the Ferry Building… Making our way to Union Square… SF love   After soaking… Read more >

That’s a lotta brown

Dude.  I can’t even begin to describe the past 18 hours.  I had a really rough day.  I was going a mile a minute from the second my shift started…and the first time I looked at the clock I was shocked.  Already 11:20!?!  Uhhhh…what!?  How could this be?  Because my job is time dependent (meds, blood draws, etc. all require a strict schedule) it’s rare that I’m not aware of the time.  Today, however, I never had a moment of rest.  Not even a millisecond.  I was definitely behind for most of the day…perpetually trying… Read more >
