vegan cake

No Sara Lee

Last month my dairy-intolerant cousin and I were lamenting over how much we miss cheesecake.  I’m sure we are biased, but our family’s recipe is pretty much the best.  Ever.  I grew up eating it at nearly every holiday and many birthdays too.  Chocolate cake is fine, but I preferred a birthday cheesecake.  Nowadays, there are very few foods that I miss from my pre-lactose-free-life, but cheesecake is definitely one of them.  So I made it a personal mission to attempt a vegan version.  Admittedly, it’s nothing like a “real” cheesecake, but when it comes… Read more >

Restaurant wars

The past week has been pretty restaurant heavy.  It makes sense since our fridge currently has more condiments than anything else.  After returning from Vegas, we stopped at the Culver City location of Tender Greens for some very necessary clean and organic meals.  It was pouring rain and we had no umbrellas, so we decided take-away was the best option.  After showering and unpacking, I dug into my “Happy Vegan” salad.  For optimal photography, I removed the toast and greens that were resting atop the other parts of the salad and put them on a… Read more >

Natural and Native Foods

After another LOOOOONG morning at the Natural Foods Expo, lunchtime rolled around and Kyle and I were beyond tired (read: ready to throw in the towel).  We came, we saw, we conquered, and we were exhausted.  Rather than return for another 5 hours of crowds and chaos, we decided that we had pretty much enjoyed everything Anaheim had to offer.  Game, set, match. What a Monday

I didn’t leave the apartment all day.  I didn’t get a WINK of shut eye (I’ve been up for over 55 hours straight).  I ate half the bag of cereal (I lost track after bowl number 4).  I watched the entire first season of 30 Rock. I attacked a jar of peanut butter with nothing but a spoon. I rocked sweat pants the entire time.  Oh, and I polished off the last few slices of vegan cheesecake.  The crust was still perfectly moist and crumbly (CoverMate what whaaaat). Tomorrow starts Alphebruary :)

Crash and burn

My second night shift came and went without incident.  It was pretty much a dream 12 hours.  I staggered my way to the parking garage and arrived home just before 8 am to pass the car off to my better half (as in, the half that doesn’t crash the car).  Oh, did I not mention my little accident?  Twitter followers may have read the news, but for those who aren’t in the loop, I suck at driving.  Don’t worry, I’m being slightly dramatic (I’m fine).  The passenger side door, on the other hand, wasn’t so… Read more >
