Crash and burn

My second night shift came and went without incident.  It was pretty much a dream 12 hours.  I staggered my way to the parking garage and arrived home just before 8 am to pass the car off to my better half (as in, the half that doesn’t crash the car).  Oh, did I not mention my little accident?  Twitter followers may have read the news, but for those who aren’t in the loop, I suck at driving.  Don’t worry, I’m being slightly dramatic (I’m fine).  The passenger side door, on the other hand, wasn’t so… Read more >

A caffeine saga

I worked Monday and Tuesday.  This means that I’m now playing catch up in life and on the blog.  Being out of town this weekend meant that my pre-work food prep was minimal.  However, Kyle and I stopped on the way home from San Clemente for a huge grocery shopping trip, so it wasn’t a complete scavenger hunt.  For breakfast I mixed up my normal oat routine by adding in wheat bran.  Also in the mix was a chopped up baby yellow delicious apple, cinnamon, stevia, and raisins.  The wheat bran didn’t change much in… Read more >

A sweets cycle

Breakfast #1 – awkwardly photographed home-made trail mix of raw almonds, raisins, carob chips, cheerios, and Three Sisters cinnamon sweets. Eaten while Kyle drove me to work at 6:20. Breakfast #2 – quinoa, shredded coconut, chopped apple, goji berries and dried cranberries. Eaten between grand rounds at 10ish. I have discovered a new way to eat quinoa that makes for an amazing breakfast…allow me to share with you. First, I add soy milk to it.  I fill it to the top like I’m adding milk to a cold cereal.  Then, I microwave it for a… Read more >

Orange you glad…

You didn’t work on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day?  I didn’t really mind it, since I got to celebrate early with my family.  On the 24th, I woke up early to sweat out a quick 20 minute Shred, which I followed up with a hearty tupperware full of overnight oats. I used 1/2 cup rolled oats and then mixed in an almost equal portion of canned pumpkin with only an itty bit of water.  This created a crazy thick consistency as it “gelled” overnight.  Other goodies included Tropical Traditions shredded coconut, dried cherries, and NuNatural liquid… Read more >

How about s’more

After Saturday’s nightcap, Kyle and I found ourselves sucked into an A&E marathon.  Has anyone else ever seen The First 48?  Because we had finished our Netflix-ed Dexter DVDs the previous night (and didn’t want to pay $11.99 for the Hyatt’s On-Demand films) our TV options were limited.  Turns out The First 48 is a really good show…so good in fact, that we’ve now seen the entire first season.  😉 Anyway, Sunday started the same as Saturday (plus football).  Coffee, pool lounging, gym time, and eventually lunch. We couldn’t help ourselves…and so we headed back… Read more >
